The Calgary Flames have been in fine form of late, especially at home. They’ll be looking to maintain it as they take on the New York Rangers with a chance at a ninth straight home win.
Prior to heading on a particularly nasty road-trip in which the Calgary Flames visit Nashville, Dallas, St. Louis and Detroit; they face-off with a New York Rangers side that will definitely take pleasure in ending the recent home-ice streak.
That streak has been built on some game-winning performances from Johnny Gaudreau, but also on the improved performance of the Flames defense. Gone is the confusion of the early season, the new partnerships not gelling and now we’re seeing some ‘changed’ players starting to step out and taking it to their opponents.
Just a short month ago, it was already a long shot for the Calgary Flames to make the playoffs and there was a lot of talk of Auston Matthews, already. Recent form has led to conversation being about an outside chance at the playoffs and less so about the Draft Lottery.
The New York Rangers team they face will no doubt be seeking to repair itself after a disastrous 7-5 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. A final period which saw Edmonton put away four of their seven shots certainly paints a picture of a Rangers side that’ll either be easy pickings or one with a massive fire in their bellies.
No win ever comes easily but the Calgary Flames will surely hope the New York Rangers side that visits the Scotiabank Saddledome is the same one that cut a dejected figure at the end of sixty minutes at Rexall Place on Friday night.
The loss sees New York on a two game losing streak but still sitting third in the Eastern Conference standings; here are our keys to victory for the Calgary Flames as they look to inflict a third losing game on the Rangers’ streak.
