The partnership between Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau has been a blessing for the Calgary Flames. Both young men have taken on-board the role that is expected of them and performed.

Gaudreau provided the heroics earlier in the week with the game-winning overtime goal that sealed his hat-trick against the Boston Bruins. Likewise, throughout the current winning streak, he’s been one of the players that has stepped up and provided for the Calgary Flames.

Sean Monahan is a different kind of player; he doesn’t necessarily posses the insane stick-handling or speed of Johnny but has himself been offering a steady production of offense, including a three-point game against the Buffalo Sabres.

Together, they’ve started to re-find their chemistry; this isn’t lost on Calgary Flames head coach who remarked on it following the Sabres win:

"“The chemistry between Monny and Johnny is back. We put David Jones on that (right) side to open things up, he’s giving us some fore-checking and net presence, also. They’re passing the puck well and playing well.” – Bob Hartley (Calgary Herald)"

Their partnership sees plenty of power play time and whilst the special teams aren’t exactly their strength, the Calgary Flames do really rely on these young guys to perform every night offensively.

A strong game from Johnny and Sean against the New York Rangers will be considered a necessity if the Calgary Flames are to score yet another victory. Failure from them up-front generally, from experience, leads to all-round failure for the Calgary Flames.

They’ll need to pounce on the defensive frailties exploited by the Edmonton Oilers in putting seven in the net; a total that the Calgary Flames should be targeting if only to prove themselves against their provincial rivals.

Hopefully they’re ready to challenge Henrik Lunqvist in the New York Rangers net in the same way their Albertan counterparts did on Friday night.
