Calgary Flames summer signing, Michael Frolik left the ice against the Nashville Predators with an upper body injury and is now on the shelf indefinitely.

More from Calgary Flames News

The winger flew back to Calgary following the game after failing to return to the ice in the third period for the Calgary Flames. The fact he left the team on the road-trip puts him out for at least three games if not more. Obviously, the Calgary Flames want their medical staff back in Alberta to check out the full extent of the injury.

As reported by Roger Millions of Sportsnet, he is at present, out indefinitely with an upper body injury.

This is a blow to the Calgary Flames especially as they’re currently on the road and have some tough games upcoming against the high-flying Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings.

The issue appears to be related to the Czech winger’s shoulder, but the Calgary Flames seem to be keeping any specifics close to their chest. Thankfully, Frolik doesn’t seem to have any sort of history of recurring shoulder injuries and it seems all of the steps being taken by the Calgary Flames are purely precautionary.

His only other absence this year for the Calgary Flames was due to illness; half the team seemed to get knocked down by colds or flu at that time.

Short-term, this will give Josh Jooris a chance to stake his claim in the line-up after six consecutive games as a healthy scratch. He’ll obviously have big skates to fill but will look to step up to the plate:

The clear hope for the Calgary Flames is that Michael Frolik is fighting fit by the time they get back to playing at the Scotiabank Saddledome against Frolik’s old team, the Winnipeg Jets in just under a week.
