Johnny Gaudreau became the fifth fastest in Calgary Flames franchise history to 100 points, with his opening goal against the Winnipeg Jets.
Not to stop with just his 100th point, he continued on to notch up his 101st and 102nd, as he became the first Calgary Flames player since Jarome Iginla in February 2003 to notch two hat-tricks in a calendar month.
Since being overlooked by so many in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and picked in the fourth round by the Calgary Flames, it feels like Johnny Gaudreau has been on a one-man mission to prove his doubters wrong.

Looking at this remarkable achievement of 100 points in just 115 games, it’s hard to overlook the fact the Calgary Flames forward would easily be the first pick in that draft year, given the power of hindsight.
Game in, game out; as he did so tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, he is creating chances for the Calgary Flames or scoring them; once, twice or as was the case tonight, three times.
He has proven time and again to be a game-changer for the Calgary Flames coming up with the goods over and over. Tonight, he didn’t net the game-winning goal and the team didn’t require the three-on-three play of overtime that he has absolutely thrived upon.
Tonight, the Calgary Flames were able to go out there and led by Johnny Gaudreau’s scoring, get the job done sealing a 4-1 win heading into the Christmas break.
It’s hard to imagine what’s next for Johnny Gaudreau, but one thing is certain if he can continue scoring at his current rate for the Calgary Flames, they’ll be doing all they can to hold onto him.
No longer is he some fourth round prospect that may never be big enough to play in the big league, he’s the little guy that showed he could, and shows most of all that size doesn’t always matter.
