Calgary Flames Set New Franchise Home Wins Record
The Calgary Flames set a new record of eleven consecutive home wins with their 5-3 comeback win over the Edmonton Oilers at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The win for the Calgary Flames came after being 3-1 down early in the second period; every single Calgary Flames player stepped up their game and performed valiantly to allow the team to net four unanswered goals to turn the scoreline on its head.
Sam Bennett, operating on the fourth line saw time on the power-play and put his body about the ice, nailing some strong hits on the boards and showing why he is such a hot prospect for the Calgary Flames.
This was somewhat of a turnaround in form for young Bennett, in a heated match with the cross-provincial rivals of the Calgary Flames.
Likewise, the checking line of David Jones, Matt Stajan and Lance Bouma demonstrated great guile and controlled aggression in dominating the ice when they were out there.
Johnny Gaudreau was quoted post-game crediting that line as turning the game, on the Twitter account of the Calgary Flames stating that “Stajan’s short-handed goal got us going.”
That’s not to overlook the contributions of the Calgary Flames captain, Mark Giordano and winger, Johnny Gaudreau who both offered up two goals each. Gaudreau came close on several occasions to netting a third that would’ve been the first pair of consecutive Calgary Flames hat-tricks by a player since the 1980s.

To perform this well coming off the Christmas break is hopefully a sign of a new year that sees this young Calgary Flames line-up go from strength-to-strength.
For now, they should bask in their victory, a new franchise record of eleven consecutive home wins and players showing mid-season form that can easily push the team into play-off contention.
Of course, the fact the Calgary Flames franchise record-breaking victory was against the Edmonton Oilers makes it all that much sweeter.
