David Backes could bring some grit and intensity to the Calgary Flames lines that whilst packed with skill, often lack a bit of punch.

It’s not clear whether David Backes is even available, but should he be, he is the right kind of aggressive and physical player to help provide some leadership to the Calgary Flames.

Here’s a player that can contribute fifty points a season and could potentially partner Calgary Flames smaller players, like Johnny Gaudreau to give them an element of protection.

Now, obviously he’s not an out-and-out enforcer as we’ve seen in years gone by, but he certainly knows how to stand up for himself and to finish his hits.

A sticking point may be that he has only known the one NHL franchise, the St. Louis Blues and as such is likely to have very strong roots in the area.

Will his team risk drawing the ire of their own fans to trade away a one-club man?

And with such numbers delivered with such regularity, what would the cost be for the Calgary Flames?

Is any deal really going to be worth it for the 31-year-old, especially as the Calgary Flames next play-off run feels like it’s a couple of years off.
