The Calgary Flames are 0/24 on the power play at home and have allowed 10 goals on the 27 times they have been shorthanded. Will this be a concern for the rest of the season?
The Calgary Flames rank 27th and 28th on the power play and the penalty kill, respectively. However, those numbers definitely don’t reflect how they’ve been playing on the road.
The Flames are actually 4th in the league for power play on the road and 7th for penalty killing on the road. We know that last season the Flames struggled immensely on the road, so is this something to be hopeful of?
Penalty killing
Like I mentioned, the Calgary Flames rank 28th in the league for the penalty kill. They also rank 28th for home pk%. They’ve been shorthanded the most amount of times at home with 27 times in six games. Also showing that this team needs to be a little more disciplined when playing in front of their fans.
Out of those 27 times, they’ve been scored on 10 times. They’ve also allowed the second highest number of power play goals against.
Like I mentioned, the Flames are 7th for penalty killing on the road. They’ve only allowed 2 goals on the 16 times they’ve been shorthanded.
Power play
The Calgary Flames rank 27th in the league on the power play, but are dead last at home. They haven’t scored a single goal on home ice in the 24 times they’ve had a power play this season. Like the penalty killing, this looks different when they’re on the road.
Like I mentioned, the Flames are 4th in the league for road pp%. They’re 4/13 on the pp while on the road and overall, they seem to be doing pretty decent on their road trips.
Next: Tough Schedule For The Flames In November
The Flames start November with a road trip in Chicago and won’t play a game at home until nine days after that so maybe this will be a good opportunity for them to get their special team numbers up. The last time the Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks met this season, the Flames won in an impressive shootout win. Where they also managed to score two pp goals.
It has only been 10 games and it’s already looking like a different season than last. They’ve still got a long season ahead of them and many more home games to prove their skills in front of the C of Red.
