Another week is done in the NHL and another busy four game week for the Calgary Flames. Who made our cut for the three stars of the week?

The Calgary Flames went 2-2-0 this week. Some impressive stats came this week from certain players (cough cough Chad Johnson cough cough). Many players pushed hard, but some stood out more than others (cough cough Chad Johnson cough cough).

Here are Flame for Thought’s three stars of the week for November 21-27:

Dave Cameron

You guys know me and know how much I hate Dave Cameron. Actually hate is strong word. I’m not very fond of Mr. Cameron. For those who aren’t aware, Cameron is one of the Calgary Flames assistant coaches and is their power play coach. And it’s no secret that the Flames struggle immensely on the PP. They are last in that category with an embarrassing 10.5%.

They were also the last team to score on the PP at home and it only took them 25 PP opportunities. So needless to say that their power play isn’t exactly one of their fortes.

However this week, they managed to score two power play goals. Which I know isn’t incredible by any means, especially since many teams can do that in a game. However, for a team that continuously struggles on the PP this season, it’s a great feat. Especially since the Flames only have eight PP goals on the year, which means a quarter of them came this week. Good job Dave, you’re safe (for now).

SECOND STAR

Movember Staches

This is how you know a team didn’t do too many impressive things this week. When the Movember staches get a star of the week over any player (jokes). But honestly, we got to give credit to these creepy staches (at least it’s for a good cause).

In my opinion, the best Movember mustache on the Calgary Flames (and the least creepy one) is TJ Brodie. I mean, it’s just so full. That man has good hair all around.

Also in the game against the Philadelphia Flyers, the first goal, which was a short-handed goal, ended up being completely by men with staches. Which means Movember is working. Actually, out of the seven Flames who had points in that game, five of the players have Movember staches. So maybe it’s good luck. Who knows.

The Chad (again)

I mean, is this REALLY a surprise? Not like I gave hints or anything earlier in this article, right? Yeah, Chad Johnson‘s game against the Flyers wasn’t his best by any means, but he’s definitely been a big factor in the Calgary Flames recent success. If the game against the Flyers went a little better, he definitely would have been one of the NHL’s three stars of the week (he’ll always be a star in my heart). Our Twitter account has basically turned into a Chad Johnson fan page.

Before the game against the Flyers, he had the best goalie stats out of all goalies in the week (for goaltenders who have started at least two games that week). His SV% was 0.968 and his GAA was 1.00. I mean, wow, absolutely incredible stats. Including the game against the Flyers, he’s won five of his last seven games in net and has gotten two shutouts. But to be fair, the Flames this week haven’t really been giving him much help. Especially with the game against the Flyers. You can’t expect your goaltender to have a 1.00 GAA in every game if you’re not supporting him. So it’s hardly to say that it’s his fault for the loss.

Anyways, I am the biggest Chad Johnson fan and I am the leader of his fan club.

There you have it, Flame for Thought’s three stars of the week. This week wasn’t the most thrilling in terms of exciting things that happens, but hey. You’re not going to get an action packed week every week for like 24 consecutive weeks.

But for this week, we had some good goaltending (again), some more facial hair, and two Calgary teams who disappointed me on Sunday evening (I’m still crying about the Calgary Stampeders losing the Grey Cup, thanks for asking).
