The  Calgary Flames will play in an important division game before they start their three-day Christmas break. And what’s happening with CalgaryNEXT?

The Calgary Flames will hopefully go into their Christmas break with a win against the Vancouver Canucks. This is a crucial division game because right now, the Flames may be in a playoff position but their points percentage says otherwise.

After being incredible in December and having a six-game win streak, the Flames have now lost three of their last four games. Good news is that their special teams are looking much better. They were on an eight-game powerplay goal streak where they scored 13 goals in those eight games.

The Flames are 6-3-0 in December and the Canucks are 4-6-1. The flames and Canucks are both tied as of right now on the penalty kill with 80.2%.

Now, what’s happening with Calgary’s supposed new arena?

After announcing the project of CalgaryNEXT (new arena), many other teams announced their new arenas that have already commenced in the construction. Leaving fans wondering, “is every team going to get a new arena before we do?”

According to Ken King, CEO of Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corp., the plan for this project is now on “pause”. They may be now discussing a different plan that involves city hall. This is a statement from King via Calgary Herald, “We indicated that we would not … abandon it, but we would pause it. So, by no means that meant that we were not interested in continuing to pursue it, because we were. And ultimately, regardless, (CalgaryNEXT) will be compared to any Victoria Park option.”

I’m not sure what’s happening with CalgaryNEXT, but it seems like it’s been up in the air ever since it’s been announced. But enough on that, the Calgary Flames have an important game tonight! It seems as though every game from this point on is important. Let’s hope they can go into their holiday break feeling confident.
