The Calgary Flames had just made a trade with the Arizona Coyotes. They now have another Michael to add to their already full-of-Michkaels roster.

The Calgary Flames have made a trade earlier today that left Twitter going nuts. Not because of the trade itself, though. Everyone is freaking out because there is now another Michael on this roster. And another M.

But let’s get on to the trade itself first and THEN we’ll get on to the jokes.

The Calgary Flames acquired D Michael Stone from the Arizona Coyotes. I don’t know what Brad Treliving says to other GM’s, but boy is he good at negotiating. The Coyotes will retain half of Stone’s $4-million salary for the rest of this season, which will cap him at $544,444 for the Flames for the rest of this season.

In return for Stone, the Coyotes got a third-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2018. Reportedly, if Stone signs with Calgary after this season, that’s when Coyotes will get that fifth round pick.

Stone’s stats

Before we get into the fun, let’s take a quick look at his numbers this season. His numbers aren’t the best this season, but at this point, I think the Flames are just trying anything to fill out our third unit and someone to be paired with TJ Brodie on that second unit. They could also be using him to expose in the expansion draft, but we won’t really know this until the off-season.

This season so far, he has just nine points in 45 games. He was mainly playing on the second unit this season. Something impressive about Stone however, is his +/-. He has just -5 which of course isn’t ideal. However, this is on the second worst team in the NHL this season. And they have a goal differential of -44.

He’s not on the powerplay a lot, but he’s on that first penalty killing unit, so the fact that his +/- isn’t worse than it is, even on the team that’s third worst on the penalty-kill in the league this season, he could have a positive impact on the Flames.

He’s also used to playing at the ‘Dome, seeing how he used to play for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL.

Alright now let’s get into the fun.

A whole lotta M’s

Alright, let’s get into this M business. This is now the Calgary Flames fourth Michael. The Flames now have Michael, Michael, Mikael, Micheal. They also have more M’s: Matt, Matt, Matt, and Mark.

The Flames should acquire Michal Neuvirth so they could have a Michael in every position. One C, one RW, one LW, one D, and one Goalie.

Or they could also acquire Matt Murray and increase the number of Matt’s as well. Maybe acquiring Marc-Andre Fleury like it’s been talked about would be a good thing. Another Marc to keep Mark Giordano company.

I mean, I love Chad Johnson and Brian Elliott, but no Flames goalies have ANY m’s in their names? Absolutely unacceptable.

Now let’s see what Twitter had to say.

Twitter Reacts

We all know Twitter was going to be blowing up. Nobody even really cared about the trade, only that the Flames acquired anther Michael. But let’s see what people had to say (with some jokes, of course) (including some tweets from yours truly).

The Calgary Flames are just trying to acquire Michaels at this point and honestly? I’m here for it.

But in all seriousness, this seems like a pretty decent trade in my opinion. We’ll just have to wait and see for what Michael (no not that one, the other Michael. No the other one) can bring to the table.
