Happy sunday Calgary Flames fans! The Flames have another afternoon game today at the ‘Dome. Let’s check out news surrounding the Flames over the last day.

The Calgary Flames play an afternoon game for the second Sunday in a row. They continue their home-stand when they host the New York Islanders at 2:00 pm MT. These two teams have already met one other time this season where the Flames lost 2-1 in overtime. However after that game, the Flames went on a six-game win streak, their longest of the season. Well, I mean, until now.

The Flames right now are on a six-game win streak and with this win over the Islanders, they’ll be at seven games which is their highest of the season and the longest current active win-streak in the NHL. The Isles have won three of their last five right now, however, it’ll be hard to battle one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now.

Somebody else who’s been red-hot as of late is Mikael Backlund.

Mikael Selke?

Mikael Backlund is having the best season of his career so far. He currently has 46 points in 65 games. His highest? 47 points. He’s also one goal away from his career-high of 21 goals. With his overtime goal against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night, he also continues to strive.

And what is all this Selke talk now?

“He’s known as Mikael Selke around here right now,” declared Matthew Tkachuk.“I’d be honoured to be in the discussion for that award,” said Backlund. “Players who win it are the ones I look up to; the players I’m trying to become. Zetterberg, Bergeron. Datsyuk, Toews. Kopitar. So of course it’d be nice to be mentioned in a group like that. But what’s really important is that the buzz is back.”“The way I view him is as a go-to guy almost all year,” praised Gulutzan. “Every tough match-up, every defensive zone face-off. We’ve got other guys doing that but primary Backs has taken the brunt of it.”

Maybe he should trademark the name ‘Mikael Selke’. I’m sure Johnny Hockey can give him some pointers on that.
