Calgary Flames Set a New Franchise Record With Shutout Over Jets
With the win over the Winnipeg Jets, the Calgary Flames have just won their ninth-straight game and have set a new franchise record in the process.
NINE IN A ROW! NINE IN A ROW! The Calgary Flames have extended their win streak to nine games with a shutout over the Winnipeg Jets and I can’t stop yelling about it! They have now set a new franchise record for longest win-streak with this nine-game win streak. Before this, it was an eight-game win streak that was last achieved in 2005.
The first time the Flames had that long of a win-streak was in the 1988-1989 season. Hm, I think something else of importance happened that season…. maybe a repeat? (Crossing my fingers).
Actually, the last time the ~Flames~ had this long of a win-streak was in the 1978-1979 season when they were still the Atlanta Flames, so technically a different franchise, meaning they set a new record tonight with the nine-game win streak.
Calgary Flames
The Flames are now 17-3-1 when leading after one period and have the second best win % when leading after one period with 0.810. They’re also 27-0-1 when leading after two periods and also have the second best win % when it comes to that, being 0.964. Huh, I guess they’re pretty good at keeping their leads, hey?
Brian Elliott also had his second consecutive shutout with a 31-save performance. He has now gone 128:28 without letting in a goal. Not only am I happy because he’s a Flame, but he’s also in two of my pools so this helps a lot. Thanks Moose!
Some other players had records tonight…
Everyone breaks records tonight!
Mikael Backlund hit 48 points tonight! It’s now officially his best season yet since his highest before was 47 points. His goal tonight came on the powerplay and he now leads the team with seven powerplay goals. I can’t wait for him to break the 50-point mark. And with that comes some fun of course.
If Backs doesn’t get a Selke trophy nomination, the league is rigged.
We also have Dougie Hamilton who had three assists tonight! He now has 44 points which is also a personal career-high for him. Wow so many players just doing the most. Hamilton is now fourth on the team in scoring and is tied for eight in defense scoring. I love little brother Dougie.
Some more fun numbers:
The Calgary Flames, exactly one month ago on February 11th, were 9th in the Western Conference and one spot out of a playoff spot. Now today, they’ve just climbed their way into the 2nd Pacific Division spot.
And you know what that means right?
They’re above the Edmonton Oilers and the Anaheim Ducks (*sunglasses emoji*).
The Flames are also now tenth in the league in points? I put a question mark because I’m even surprised about that. I just checked and I’m still sitting here semi-confused. Where did this team come from? Many factors changed over the last month and so many things have fallen into place for this team. Let’s hope they never stop this.

Oh and let’s hope the Oilers go on like a ten-game losing streak… That’d be fun, right?
