Good morning Calgary Flames fans! It’s a lovely day in YYC today. Let’s take a look at some of the news surrounding this team over the last 24 hours.

The biggest piece of news surrounding the Calgary Flames and the entire league is the Flames reaching a historic ten-game win streak with their shootout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. The Flames have now beaten the defending Stanley Cup Champions both times this season in exhilarating shootout wins.

The Flames haven’t had 10 straight wins since before their relocation to Calgary from Atlanta. Since 1978-1979. So this is technically the longest in Calgary Flames history.

And what’s a post-game historic win without some post-game comments?

"“That,” agreed shootout hero Kris Versteeg, “is a long time ago.”“It’s cool. I won’t deny it,” said skipper Mark Giordano, savouring a 4-3 shootout victory that propels this marvellous Calgary Flames’ winning streak to a franchise-tying-high 10 games.“Any time you can accomplish something that’s lasted so long, you should take pride in it. I thought the atmosphere was great all night. Great game. Great team over there that never stops battling. I thought we went toe-to-toe, back-and-forth with them, and that’s never easy. This whole streak our group has been resilient. Killing that one in OT and then getting the extra point it really does keep the momentum building.”"

For more post-game fun, go here. Warning, I was still very hype while writing that.

Now on to other things, like someone who hasn’t quite had his season yet.

Sam Bennett.

Sam Bennett hasn’t quite been having the NHL career he’s been hoping to have. However, he’s still showing that he won’t back down when someone challenges him.

Warning: blood.

Via Calgary Herald:

"“My mom tells me to stop fighting,” admitted Calgary Flames centre Sam Bennett after Monday’s morning skate at the Saddledome. “They don’t love it, but it’s part of it.”“I’ve always been a competitor and never afraid to drop ’em if I have to,” said Bennett, whose only other big-league bout was his skirmish last season with San Jose Sharks rearguard Marc-Edouard Vlasic. “I think, this year, it’s a lot more frustration personally so that might have something to do with it. But it’s a part of the game and I’m not afraid to do it.”“He’s getting himself some room, I think. He’s a young guy just scrapping for some room on the ice, and he’s done well at it,” said Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan. “You don’t want him doing it all the time, but he’s emotionally involved in games and plays hard and he finishes his checks, and that stuff is going to come to him at times and it’s good that he responds. I like it. I think it’s a good way for a young guy who plays a hard-nosed game to establish himself.”"
