Calgary Flames Top LA Kings as Elliott Ties a Franchise Record
The Calgary Flames are back on track with a win over the Los Angeles Kings. G Brian Elliott managed to tie a franchise record in the process.
The Calgary Flames beat the Los Angeles Kings Sunday evening 5-2 for the second time this season. They’re now 2-1-0 against the Kings this season with two games left to play. This was a pretty exciting game from start to finish. The Flames are now 5-1-1 in their last seven home games vs the Kings. This game marked the end of their home stance and they’ll take off to Washington next.
Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan each had one goal and two assitss tonight, with Gaudreau reaching that 50 point mark (now at 52).
Michael Stone had another goal tonight as well. Speaking of Stone, the Flames are now 10-0-0 when Stone is in the lineup. I guess he’s that good luck charm the team has needed, hey?
The Flames have also moved into the third Pacific Division spot (again) with this win. They’re now 30-0-1 when leading after two periods which is the second best record in the NHL. They also have the best record since January 26, going 17-3-1.
Let’s talk about something else exciting.
Calgary Flames
Brian Elliott
Brian Elliott has been absolutely spectacular since January. And tonight, he continued to prove that. He reached his 11th consecutive win tonight. He reached his personal career high of 10 wins in the win against the Dallas Stars on Friday evening.
Since January 26th, it’s hard to argue that he hasn’t been one of the best, if not THE best goaltenders in the entire league. He has the best record since then, going 15-1-1, he has the third best sv% (of goalies who have played at least 10 games) with 0.935 and the second best GAA with 1.88.
In his ten straight wins before this game, he had a 1.67 GAA and 0.944 sv%. Including this 11th game, he has allowed two goals or less 9 times. Along with two shutouts as well. If he doesn’t get a star of the month, I’ll be writing a very angry letter to the NHL.
Going on to more happy things, let’s talk about the kid who never stops smiling.
Curtis Lazar made his Calgary Flames debut tonight (finally) because Micheal Ferland was out due to illness. And Lazar got his first assist as a Flame! I mean, given that it was on an empty-netter goal, but still!

Well, that’s all in this post-game recap. The next game will be an ultimate challenge for the Flames because they’ll be facing off the best team in the league, the Washington Capitals, who have just clinched a playoff spot. If the Flames want to help Elliott reach that franchise record, they’re going to have to be there to support him.
