THE CALGARY FLAMES CLINCHED THE CALGARY FLAMES CLINCHED! THEY ARE NOW OFFICIALLY IN A PLAYOFF SPOT!

I haven’t stopped yelling for the past hour. The Calgary Flames are officially a playoff team! With a win in any fashion tonight against the San Jose Sharks, the Flames would have clinched a playoff spot. And spoiler alert: They won 5-2!

Anyways I’m still yelling in case you were asking.

Tonight, Johnny Gaudreau opened up the scoring with a beautiful pass to Sam Bennett who passed it right back to him. Bennett also had a goal this game (the empty-netter) and was on fire all game. Which rightfully earned him the second star.

The score was 4-1 for the Flames with about 7 minutes left of the game. But then the Sharks made it 4-2 with 6:54 left. Uh oh. They even had a powerplay with 2:40 left of the game, but thank every good thing in this universe, because Brian Elliott was absolutely spectacular tonight and had many game-saving saves. He stopped 36 of 38 shots, earning him the first star of the game.

Also, in case you were wondering, I’m STILL yelling.

Sam Bennett scored the empty-netter with 0:38 left of the game to make the game 5-2 and boy was the ‘Dome ever loud.

With Johnny Gaudreau’s goal in the first period, he is now on a seven-game point streak with 11 points in that seven-game stretch. Sean Monahan also had a goal tonight, giving him eight points in his last four games. Boy have these two really stepped up to the plate lately when the team needed him most.

And while the San Jose Sharks battled really hard this game, they unfortunately (for them) came up short. They’re now just one point ahead of the Calgary Flames with the same number of games played. This really is anybody’s game in the Pacific Division. Looks like fish are no match for fire (sorry, bad joke).

This was a fun game (I’m still yelling) and this team looks ecstatic. They completely deserve to have that X beside their name.
