TGIF Calgary Flames fans! The Flames may have lost game 1 last night, but there’s still plenty more to play! Let’s check out some Flames news.

The Calgary Flames failed (again) to break that stinking Honda Center curse last night. They trailed the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 for the Ducks to take game 1 of the series. It wasn’t a completely failed attempt by the Flames though, and they came very close to tying the game up in the last few minutes.

But unfortunately, a poor line-change cost them this game, essentially.

But what’s a post-game loss without some post-game comments?

Brian Elliott, who was spectacular last night, saved 38 of 41 shots. But none of the goals were his fault. Two were powerplay goals which bounced off the stick of the Flames defencemen, and another was a horrible line change that caused a 3-on-0 break for the Ducks.

Via Calgary Flames:

"It’s tough,” said the heroic Brian Elliott, “when we give them everything.“Two powerplay goals and a bad change. It’s not like they earned it that much.“We kinda gave it to them.”“We clean things up and we’ll take care of business.”"

And with those two powerplay goals, people are talking about the Flames struggles to remain disciplined.

"“We took way too many penalties. But in saying that, we still had a couple good looks at the end. You’d like to have a couple of those shots back.” Said captain Mark Giordano.“That’s what we talked about after the game,” sighed Kris Versteeg, whose two letter-perfect passes – to Sean Monahan and Sam Bennett – arranged Calgary’s goals. “We didn’t bring near our best. We were undisciplined at times but we still gave ourselves a chance to win.“On the 5-on-3 we didn’t set up the way we wanted to. We’ve got to find ways to be big in those moments if we’re going to beat a team like that.“You give them that many (powerplay) chances they’re going to make you play.”"
