Happy Thursday Calgary Flames fans! It’s starting to get a little warmer in Calgary (finally). Let’s check out some news surrounding the team.

The Calgary Flames are continuing in their off-season as other teams are battling for Lord Stanley’s Cup. But with the Flames season ending, don’t worry! We’ll still be here in the summer to bring you all the latest Flames news.

I mean, we won’t have a whole lot of news, but we’ll still be your go-to place. Don’t worry, we got your back. Unlike the Flames.

Kidding. Sort of. Moving on.

Let’s start with the piece we’ll be talking about today and that’s on GM Brad Treliving. Right now, fans are getting anxious because Treliving still doesn’t have a contract and the general consensus I’ve seen is that Calgary Flames fans want Treliving to stay. I personally would love a contract extension for him. In fact, the Flames apparently have 50 hockey operations contracts expiring this year. Talk about a busy off-season.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet:

Calgary GM Brad Treliving is scheduled to meet with ownership some time this week. The word around the league is he wants to stay. That’s always a positive, because without a willingness to make a deal, it becomes exponentially harder. There’s a real sense of, “They’re not seriously going to get rid of him, are they?” But I think it comes down to the Flames’ offer. If it’s market value, everything’s OK. If not, there’s trouble. And if it doesn’t work out, I wonder if Calgary will take a long look at Craig Conroy. His time is coming.

There were also other rumors of Craig Conroy potentially going to Buffalo. And analysts are saying that if Treliving doesn’t choose to re-sign with Calgary, his phone will be ringing right away for offers from other teams. Let’s just hope the Flames can lock him in.

There were also rumours circulating around reddit that Treliving told the Flames that he’ll only re-sign if Flames CEO Ken King will stop meddling in hockey ops decisions. But again, this isn’t a for sure fact so don’t go telling your friends this and say it’s because Flame for Thought told you this. I don’t want to get in trouble with Flames fans. I like you guys.
