Good morning Calgary Flames fans! It’s a lovely and sunny Tuesday here in YYC. Let’s check out some news surrounding the Flames.

We keep talking about the same things over and over again. Hey, it’s the off-season, can you blame me? But still the biggest piece of news surrounding the Calgary Flames is the contract extension of GM Brad Treliving. We already talked about this yesterday and showed how fans felt about this signing.

Spoiler alert: They were happy. Well, Flames fans were happy. I’m sure fans of other teams, maybe like the Buffalo Sabres, would have liked a GM like Treliving. But too bad, he’s ours. So back off, Sabres.

The president of Flames hockey operations, Brian Burke, just like the majority of Flames fans, is also a big Treliving fan. He thinks he has done great work here in Calgary and was keen on him signing a contract extension.

Via Calgary Herald:

“If Brad had a poor report card, I would have recommended a change, but he has done an excellent job,” said Burke, the Flames’ president of hockey operations, one day after locking up his general manager with a multi-year contract extension. “Continuity and stability is not as important as having the right guy. It’s just nice that Brad has performed and we can extend him and get some of that stability and continuity. He has done a real good job, and he’s a real good guy. He’s fun. Guys like working for him, they work hard for him.“So I’m very happy. I think the happiest person in Calgary yesterday was Brian Burke, not Brad.”

Another happy person yesterday was me, but whatever you say, Burkie.

Sorry for being negative, but on the other side of the happiness scale, the Flames farm team, the Stockton Heat, lost their first round series last night against the San Jose Barracuda. It was the game 5 winner-moves-on game. AND it went to overtime. I was watching this game and oh boy, this quickly made my mood go down. So maybe Burke was right, he was the happiest person in Calgary yesterday.

We’ll have more on the Heat’s loss later today (boo).
