Happy Friday Calgary Flames fans! It keeps getting warmer and warmer in Calgary and it feels like summer. Let’s check out some Flames news.

The Calgary Flames off-season continues. I think I can stop saying that or else I’ll say that for the next three months. Well, it’s continuing for MOST of the players. Except for Johnny Gaudreau and Chad Johnson. Team Canada and Team USA just finished their first games of their respective preliminary rounds. Team Canada came on top over Team Czech Republic and Team USA unfortunately lost 2-1.

I mean, I’m Canadian, so I’m happy about this outcome, but I was rooting for Johnny. He was definitely one of the best players for Team USA on the ice today so really the Americans should be happy the Flames lost in the first round of the playoffs. You’re welcome, America.

Now on to what we wanted to talk about today. Two arenas?

As we know, Calgary has put in a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics since they’re trying to recycle cities because it’ll be a lot cheaper. And Calgary has a good chance of hosting the 2026 Olympics.

And as we know, Ken King desperately wants a new arena. Now he’s saying that two arenas would be great for the 2026 Olympics. So looks like Calgary could potentially still keep the ‘Dome even if they build a new arena.

Via Calgary Sun:

"“It certainly doesn’t hurt at all,” he says, sounding upbeat Tuesday. In fact, when King hears Rick Hanson say two arenas are required to host the 2026 Winter Olympics in Calgary, the Flames president is “encouraged there’s just another reason people will get behind what we’re trying to do.”King also believes Hanson’s comment on the necessity of two arenas for the Olympics “could be considered to be a benefit to the process, but not essential.”Not essential since the hockey team’s president insists he doesn’t want a new arena tied to an Olympic bid."
