Well, it’s a done deal. Mike Smith will be between the pipes for the Calgary Flames. Let’s see how the people of Twitter felt about this trade.

Well, if you’re a Calgary Flames fan and you were Tweeting about the trade, chances are your Tweets may be featured here. But in case you don’t know, the Flames acquired Mike Smith from the Arizona Coyotes yesterday before the trade freeze.

For more trade details, go here.

Of course, with anything that happens, people on Twitter will be feeling some type of way about it. There was the initial reaction of when the news was first introduced from the guys over at TSN and Sportsnet, but nothing was official yet.

We have the initial reaction to that which was mainly shock and confusion because nothing had been set in stone yet. There was that confusion because Mike Smith is 35 years old and has been somewhat inconsistent in his career.

Let’s get into the five stages of grief when it came to this trade.

First Stage: Denial

When the trade was first introduced by Elliotte Friedman, there was of course people just going, “No, this can’t be happening.” Then when it was officially confirmed and what the trade was, there was denial.

Second Stage: Anger

Then we get into the time when Calgary Flames fans had finally accepted that this trade wasn’t just a joke and they got quite… angry…. at GM Brad Treliving.

Third Stage: Bargaining

Now we get into the bargaining stage. This is where Flames fans basically begged Treliving to NOT go through with this trade. Or, you know, at least make it a decent trade.

Stage Four: Depression

We’re now in the depression stage. This is where we as Calgary Flames fans all have to come terms with the trade but nobody wants to and is still very upset about this trade. You know you need to accept it, but you can’t. Not yet.

Stage Five: Acceptance

We get into the fifth and final stage of Grief. Acceptance. This is where Calgary Flames fans have cooled down a little bit and decided that what’s done is done and we should all look at the positives. We can’t change the trade now, so let’s try our best to accept it.
