The Calgary Flames have filled out their top-four defencemen issue. They acquire Travis Hamonic from the New York Islanders for multiple picks.
After somewhat fixing their problems with the crease, the Calgary Flames have finally answered their top-four defencemen problem one week later! After hearing that GM Brad Treliving had been working out something for D Travis Hamonic from the New York Islanders, it’s finally happened. The trade is somewhat confusing though.
The Flames acquire Travic Hamonic and a fourth-round pick in 2019 or 2020 in exchange for their 2018 first round pick, 2018 second round pick, and a second round pick in 2019 or 2020. TSN’s Bob McKenzie breaks it down:
However, now the Flames will have no first, second, or third round picks at next year’s draft. Yikes. This means that the Flames management is fully confident that the Flames will be legitimate cup contenders next season.
Hamonic is also still on an great contract, with three years left on his contract of $3.857 million. An awesome price for a top-four defenceman.
Now with Mark Giordano, Dougie Hamilton, TJ Brodie, and now Travis Hamonic, the Flames top-four looks absolutely solid, and for a good price too!
