Some players who were put on waivers and another cut from the roster. Let’s check out some Calgary Flames news over the last day.
Well, after the Calgary Flames placed three players on waivers yesterday and nobody picked them up, they’ve been assigned to the Stockton Heat. Yesterday morning, the Flames put RW Emile Poirier, LW Hunter Shinkaruk, and D Tyler Wotherspoon on waivers. After 24 hours and nobody picked them up, they’re down in the AHL
Today, the Flames also released Jordan Cramarossa from his PTO earlier today. He has signed to a PTO just a few weeks ago but was nowhere near being above average. The Flames roster is down to 27 players now and will need to cut it down to 23 players by next Tuesday. So far, it seems like Mark Jankowski might be finally getting somewhat of a full-time job with the club.
After spending time in college then down with the Flames affiliate, he finally played in his first NHL game last season. But right now, there are other things that are worrying Flames fans.
There’s a lot to unpack here. First, it looks like Tanner Glass may be making the cut potentially over a player like Mark Jankowski. And he’ll actually be signed to a contract after signing a PTO a few weeks ago. I mean, giving him the benefit of the doubt, he hasn’t been as bad as we all thought he would be.
But then there’s that third line…
In order for Sam Bennett to excel, he cannot be put on a line with Troy Brouwer. We learned that last year. And we learned that in the exhibition games when he wasn’t on a line with Brouwer and was incredible. This is concerning.
The third is Matt Bartkowski making the opening night roster. So far in exhibition games, he’s been quite terrible. That’s not even an understatement. In the game against the Vancouver Canucks, the Flames were up 3-1 and ended up losing 5-2. I’m pretty sure Bartkowski was on the ice for three of the goals. If not, he was on the ice for at least two of them. And he had four giveaways alone in that game.
In three exhibition games, he has eight giveaways. EIGHT. I don’t quite know what the Calgary Flames are seeing in him so far during the preseason. Or what they even saw in him last season when he first joined the Flames lineup. But he hasn’t been good.
