The 45-year-old legend Jaromir Jagr will be making his Calgary Flames home debut tonight. But just how old is he really?

Calgary Flames fans were absolutely ecstatic when they found out the oldest man in the league would be joining their team. 45-year-old Jaromir Jagr was signed a little later in the off-season and missed training camp and pre-season. He finally made his Calgary Flames debut on Wednesday night against the LA Kings.

Tonight, he’ll be making his home debut. This will be a must-see game.

Right now, Jagr is the oldest man in the league. The second oldest? Matt Cullen, at 40 years old. Five years younger. Jagr could also potentially break the record this season for the most amount of games played in the history of the NHL if he doesn’t miss too many games.

Let’s put into perspective just how old he is.

On the current 23-man roster, Jagr played in his first NHL game in October of 1990 before eight current Flames players were even born (three players were born in 1990 so I didn’t count them).

The youngest member on the Flames roster right now, Matthew Tkachuk, was born seven years later. His dad and former NHL player, Keith Tkachuk, was part of the same draft class as Jagr. In fact, Keith didn’t even play in his first NHL game until two years after Jagr’s first game. Also, Matthew’s mom is younger than Jagr.

Jagr played in his first NHL game when there were only 21 teams in the league. In fact, his last team, the Florida Panthers, were born three years later.

You know, every single NHL player right now was born after Czechoslovakia, Jagr’s home country, split into two different countries: The Czech Republic and Slovakia. Not Jagr. They split two years after he played in his first NHL game. The USSR was also still intact when he played his first NHL games.

We also know that he’s too old to be playing in overtime.

I feel like any time Jagr does anything, people are like “Did you know that Canada wasn’t even a country when Jagr got his first goal? The NHL didn’t even exist when Jagr scored his 500th career point.”

Now let’s look at some funny Jagr moments.

One time, Jagr was asked who his favourite player is and he responded with “Jaromir Jagr”. This man is a legend in more ways than one.

Here are some Jagr commercials and I really don’t understand any of them. And not because they’re in a different language.

Next: Could this be Sam Bennett's breakout year?

We’re all glad that Jagr has picked the Calgary Flames as his first Canadian team, and potentially his last NHL team ever. I mean, it was meant to be anyways.
