Calgary Flames Daily: Travis Hamonic back in the lineup

CALGARY, AB - NOVEMBER 2: Travis Hamonic
CALGARY, AB - NOVEMBER 2: Travis Hamonic

It’s game day! The Calgary Flames take on the St. Louis Blues tonight for their second match-up of the season with Travis Hamonic returning to the lineup.

The Calgary Flames end their season-long seven-game home stand tonight against the St. Louis Blues. So far, the Flames are 4-2-0 on this home stance and will look to improve that tonight. The Flames and Blues have already met one other time this season. Eddie Lack had his first, and until now, his only start in net where the Blues beat the Flames 5-2.

The Flames special teams got the best of them again that game, letting the Blues go 2/3 with the man-advantage and not being able to capitalize on their two PP opportunities.

Tonight, Travis Hamonic will draw back into the lineup after missing a few games with a minor injury. Which means that the Flames must also send Rasmus Andersson down. Andersson played in just one game, which was the last game against the Detroit Red Wings, alongside Brett Kulak. Those two are used to playing with each other down in Stockton.

In that game, Andersson and Kulak both had the highest CF% of the Flames defensive duos at 54.84%. Tonight, Kulak will draw in again alongside Michael Stone for that third pairing. Which means that Matt Bartkowski will be another warm body in the press-box.

Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau will look to increase their point-streaks to seven games tonight. They currently have points in all six games so far this home stance and Johnny Gaudreau’s tied for fourth in points among all skaters in the league. They alongside Micheal Ferland have been a force that you don’t want to mess with.

“It’s great,” Monahan said. “Ferly’s put a lot of pucks in the net at important times. … So I mean, he’s working hard, and he’s doing a great job, so I think he’s really benefiting our team right now.“You even saw last game, Backs gave him the puck there, and he skated right to the net,” Monahan explained, referring to Ferland’s deke-out goal against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. “Sometimes guys don’t do that when you don’t have that confidence.”“I think just the way he’s been competing for us,” he said. “He’s been a top player for us, he’s helping us win games, he’s good in the defensive zone, he’s good and strong in the offensive zone, he screens the goalies, he’s got a great shot.”
