Calgary Flames Daily: Post-game win, trade deadline approaching
After finally winning again last night, the Calgary Flames are feeling good. With the trade deadline approaching, do we have any ideas of what the team will do?
Finally a win! After losing three in a row, the Calgary Flames have finally won against the Arizona Coyotes last night. It was an overall good game and a strong win. And the Flames finally played a good full 60 minutes, which is something we haven’t been able to say lately.
One player who’s feeling good is Jon Gillies. After letting in a bit of a soft goal less than a minute into the game and looked shaky, he came back and seemed to gain confidence as the game went.
While he played in two other games this season and this wasn’t his first ever NHL start, this was his first start of the season. And he finally got his first ever NHL win!

“I don’t think you say, ‘Oh, boy,”’ the Calgary rookie said. “I didn’t know where it went and it ended up on his stick. Just a bad bounce.”“Little bit of rust to shake off,” he said.“He was a little nervous in the beginning, but he settled right in,” Flames coach Glen Gulutzan said. “What I like about him is he’s a big guy that’s not afraid to challenge, but he’s not overly aggressive in his movements. He doesn’t slide out of the net, he’s real controlled. A great big body that plays big.”
With the moms trip happening on this two-game road trip, what a fun trip for Mrs. Gillies!
The trade deadline is approaching and is only three days away. What!? How has this month gone by so fast? Before the game yesterday, GM Brad Treliving was saying how he’s been unhappy with the team’s play as of late. Potentially hinting at something he has in the works by deadline.
Is he planning on making a big move to get a top-six winger? Is he potentially going to move TJ Brodie? Will the Calgary Flames need another goaltender if Mike Smith isn’t back soon? These are all questions that we won’t get the answer to until some moves happen.
