Well, the Calgary Flames have had a busy morning so far. Let’s check out all the news that went down this morning in today’s Flames Daily.

There is too much happening this morning and I don’t like it. First, the Calgary Flames place Mike Smith on IR. However, he hasn’t played since Feb. 11 and can technically be taken off IR at any point right now, so they probably did this just to recall some players (which they did).

They also sent Ryan Lomberg back to Stockton and in turn, recalled two players. Andrew Mangiapane (again) and Tanner Glass. To be completely honest with you, I had totally forgotten that Glass was still in the organization. We really took these past few months of not having to hear about Glass for advantage, huh.

Micheal Ferland left after an injury last game and is currently day-to-day. The Flames have yet to release the projected lineup for today’s afternoon game vs. the Colorado Avalanche, but if Ferland is out, we can expect Sam Bennett to stay on that top line and Andrew Mangiapane to make it into the lineup (not sure if they’ll stick him at the third or fourth line). Please hockey gods, make it Mangiapane and not Glass.

With Mike Smith out, this is a big cause for concern for the team. While David Rittich has been great and has been able to hold his own, we can’t quite expect him to do that for a while. And we can’t expect the Flames to ride with him and Jon Gillies, two rookie goalies, if Mike Smith will be out for longer than we expected. It’s crunch time and the Flames desperately need as many points as they can get right now.

Via Calgary Sun:

"“Game-in and game-out right now are must-wins for us,” said Flames star Johnny Gaudreau, who rebounded with a goal and two assists against the Coyotes. “You see how tight the standings are. Every game is important. These points are crucial now with just less than 20 games in the season now. Hopefully we can go on a little roll here and try to keep clicking away and getting points here.”"

And before we finish this off, a big congratulations to the Men’s Hockey Team on winning the Bronze Medal early this morning!
