Calgary Flames Daily: Micheal Ferland finally returns to lineup

NEWARK, NJ - FEBRUARY 08: Micheal Ferland

After three straight losses, the Calgary Flames are hoping that with the return of Micheal Ferland to the lineup, they can get back in sync.

In a constant series of unfortunate events, the Calgary Flames finally get some good news. First, it was that Micheal Ferland was close to returning and that he would be heading with the team on their upcoming road-trip. Now, it’s that he will be returning tomorrow night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Flames leading scorer Johnny Gaudreau hasn’t had any points in his last four games and leading goal-scorer Sean Monahan hasn’t had any points in his last three. The team is hoping that with the return of Ferland to the lineup and to the top line, it can reignite that line. They were good for a few games with Sam Bennett on that line, and they’ve been getting chances, but they can’t seem to find the back of the net.

Gaudreau and Monahan agree that it hasn’t been the same without Ferly. As with head coach Glen Gulutzan.

“It’s different without him. I’ve played with him for 60 or 70 games this season,” Gaudreau said. “Then, you switch up the lines and it’s difficult to get that chemistry sometimes when you play with a player that long and get new linemates, it’s been a bit of adjustment.“He’s strong on pucks and has a great shot and brings a physical presence. It’s going to be great to get him back in the lineup.”“We missed some physicality in our lineup and some presence,” Gulutzan said. “But also, Ferly’s a quick-strike guy. He can sting you off the rush, he makes plays … he can put the puck in the net with that shot and doesn’t have to be a great chance. You can see how important he is to the (top line).”

The Calgary Flames play three games on this road trip all this week before coming back home and playing quite a few of their last games against their own Division. These games are crucial for the club and they need to be winning those division games in regulation.
