Yesterday afternoon, there were reports that the Calgary Flames could be trading for a first-round pick at the 2018 NHL Draft. Let’s check out more Flames news.

In a season that should have been, the Calgary Flames crumbled. And now, they don’t even have a draft pick until the third round. So now there are talks that they may be trading for a first-round pick at the 2018 NHL Draft.

Via Sportsnet:

"Word out of the GM meetings is Calgary GM Brad Treliving will look to add a first-round pick in this year’s draft. The Flames traded their 2018 selection to the Islanders in the Travis Hamonic deal, and will try to replace it. That would likely mean a major move, but the way this season is ending necessitates something big."

Many people are starting to speculate that a trade involving TJ Brodie could be an option. I’m not here to speculate trades, just trying to show what’s been going on in Flames news over the last couple days.

Another big piece of news is the decision for Flames prospect Adam Fox to spend another year at Harvard next season.

This past year with Harvard, Fox had 28 points in 29 games which took a dip from his freshman year of 40 points in 35 games. He also won the NCAA Ivy-League and ECAC rookie of the year and was named New England’s best defenceman in his freshman year.

The final piece of news is all the injury updates. The last couple of games, Matthew Tkachuk and TJ Brodie have been nursing injuries. Sean Monahan also wasn’t at practice this morning. Per Glen Gulutzan, he’s also been playing through injuries. Kris Versteeg, who’s been a scratch the last couple of games which Gulutzan says wasn’t injury related, turns out it might be injury related.

I’d say to just shut down Sean Monahan, Matthew Tkachuk, and Kris Versteeg for the rest of the season. The Calgary Flames won’t be making playoffs and may as well have them rest and not injure themselves more.

Because of all these injuries, the Flames PP units have quite a different look to them. But at least Rasmus Andersson is getting NHL time and has been playing quite well. If Brodie does end up getting traded, I wouldn’t mind a Brett Kulak and Andersson third pairing.
