The Calgary Flames finally won a game! I never thought it would happen either. With that win, Mike Smith still called out the team… again. Let’s check out some news surrounding this team.
Finally a win! The Calgary Flames broke their seven-game losing streak with a win over the Edmonton Oilers last night. Their 3-2 win was the first time they’ve won in two and a half weeks – to the Oilers as well.
With the Battle of Alberta last night, things were flaring up. Do these two teams have a long standing rivalry or something?
At one point, Mike Smith got into a fight with Milan Lucic. I’m happy for Smith for finally getting the fight he’s been wanting all season, but that came with some comments. Shortly after, Tanner Glass took on Lucic, but Smith was disappointed that nobody else really stepped up.

Mike Smith on Tanner Glass: “It’s sad that a guy that’s been in the minors for most of the year and doesn’t play much has to go out there and answer the bell. Glass is that kind of teammate. He’s that kind of guy that will step up for anyone here. We need more guys like that.”

More Smith on Glass: “He’s been in and out of the lineup. He’s been dragged through the gutter and back. And then in a meaningless game it’s a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve for our group. He’s such a great teammate."

One last Smith on Glass: "Obviously that’s his role, but it’s unfortunate that he was the one who had to go out there and do that. That’s the position he’s in and obviously anyone in this room I hope would go to bat for a guy like that, too.”

Mike Smith has somewhat called out the team another time against the New York Islanders about their lack of compete early on in the games. I mean, while I agree with that, that wasn’t exactly the best game for Smith to say those things.
Other than that, it was a heated game and the Calgary Flames showed lots of emotion.
Via Calgary Sun:
"“The guys were feeling like, ‘That’s enough now — we have to find a way to win here,’ ” said Flames centre Mikael Backlund, who not only scored the would-be game-winner but played a key role in silencing visiting superstar Connor McDavid. “Even though they scored (first), I felt there was an urgency to just go, ‘Enough is enough. We have to get a win here.’ ”“To be honest, it was nice to play in a game like that again,” Smith added. “It’s been a long time since we’ve felt an emotional engagement in the game, and that’s what the NHL is all about — playing in games like that. It felt good to get the juices flowing again.”"
