There are only 61 days until the season starts! Let’s check out where former Calgary Flames player, John Negrin, is now.

There are only 61 days left until the season starts! It feels like just yesterday there were only 62 days. Good times. Sorry, bad joke. Moving along. With this series we’re doing with looking at former Calgary Flames players who wore the numbers corresponding to the days left until the season starts, there are only two who have worn No.61: Brett Kulak and John Negrin.

We can’t exactly do a “Where are they now?” on Brett Kulak since he’s still here. So John Negrin it is.

You may be wondering, “who on earth is John Negrin?” Well, you may remember him from the total of three NHL games he played in 2009. He played in three games for the Flames when his season in the WHL was over in 2009 and never played another NHL game since.

Negrin played for the Flames org. for three more years after that, staying in the AHL, until he was traded to the Winnipeg Jets in 2012 for Akim Aliu. He then signed with the Chicago Wolves (Vancouver Canucks affiliate at the time). He spent the rest of his NHL career going back and forth between the AHL and the ECHL affiliates for the Canucks.

His final season part of the Canucks org. was in 2016-17, when he had just five assists in 22 games with the Utica Comets.

In October, Negrin signed a contract with Lørenskog, part of the Norwegian league, where he had two goals and 15 points in 22 games. Negrin isn’t currently listed on the their roster for 2018-19, but then again only five players are currently listed. It’s also unclear how long his contract with them was for. He’ll most likely spend the rest of his career in Europe since it seems unlikely that an NHL comeback is in his future.
