Continuing with the news on this Friday, the Calgary Flames have assigned F Curtis Lazar to their farm team, the Stockton Heat.

This has been a busy and productive Friday, right? First, the Calgary Flames announced that D Travis Hamonic will be placed on IR due to a facial fracture which he obtained in a fight on Wednesday. His status is week-to-week, so the Flames recalled D Rasmus Andersson from the Stockton Heat. They then said that Dalton Prout would be making his Flames debut on Saturday night in the Flames’ home-opener against the Vancouver Canucks.

Now, they have sent F Curtis Lazar down to Stockton.

Last week, the Flames put Lazar on waivers. Once he cleared it the next day, rather than sending him down at that point, they kept him up. He continued to practice with the team and made the final 23-man roster. Although he didn’t play in the season-opener, he was a healthy scratch with the hopes to make it into the lineup at some point.

Lazar has mentioned that whether it’s in the NHL or at the AHL level, he wants to stay within the Flames organization.

The Flames got Lazar at trade-deadline during the 2016-17 season in which they sent back a second-round pick to the Ottawa Senators. He has played in 69 total games with the Flames and has three goals and 12 assists.

The Flames running a 22-man roster rather than a 23-man roster will save them $5,000 a day (thanks Ryan Pike). The Stockton Heat start their season Friday evening and, after releasing their opening-night roster earlier, with all the changes made on Friday, they’ll definitely have to update that.
