Calgary Flames’ star forward has been named the NHL’s first start of January. This is the second month in a row he’s been named a star of the month.

It’s another month which means another month of Johnny Gaudreau being named a star of the month among all players in the league. The Calgary Flames left-winger was named the first star of the month of January for his impressive performance. He put up eight goals and 18 points in 11 games to help the Flames go 9-1-1.

He was on an 11-game point streak and had a point in 10 of the 11 games in the month, except for the final game of the month in the Flames’ 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Gaudreau also had multi-point games in six of those 11 games.

His 11-game point streak, which was the longest active point streak at the time, was also the longest in franchise history since Kristian Huselius when he went on a 15-game point streak in 2007, according to the NHL.

Gaudreau was also named the NHL’s first star of the week for the first week of the month.

Not only was he the first star of January, but he was also named the NHL’s second star of December. In December, he had 11 goals and 26 points in 14 games while having multi-point games in nine games. Nikita Kucherov was named the first month of December, but that was the only time he was named a star of the month. Hart Trophy who?

That’s a joke, I promise.

Gaudreau currently has 73 points in 51 games. He’s just 11 points shy of his career high of 84 points he had last season. He’s currently on pace to reach the 100-point mark for the first time in his career and the first time in the franchise since 1992-93 when Theoren Fleury reached 100 points in 83 games. Even Kent Nilsson and Jaromir Jagr have both said that Gaudreau can easily reach 100 points multiple times in his career if he wanted to.
