The Calgary Flames still own a winning record, 3-2-1, in the second game of a back to backs after losing to the Blues 5-1 on Thursday evening.

While things didn’t go as planned in St. Louis, Darryl Sutter can take solace knowing his side have managed to keep a winning record in the second game of back to backs despite all six contests taking place on the road.

You saw what happened to St. Louis in the second of back to backs on Monday in Calgary. The Flames deserve tons of credit for taking that game to the Blues, but it was clear St. Louis were fatigued from playing in Vancouver the previous night. That scenario was flipped on his head in Missouri last night.

The Flames dismantled the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-0 on Wednesday night, but were unable to dominate the Blues in the same fashion as they did on Monday, losing to a much-improved St. Louis team.

With an incredibly condensed forthcoming schedule, the Flames will have to get used to playing on successive nights.

February sees the Flames play three separate back-to-back sets, two of which at the friendly confines of the Dome.

The Stampede city has an additional four back to backs in April, followed by three more to cap off the season in May. Of the 10 remaining games on the second night of back-to-back sets, four take place at the Saddledome.

Winning three of the first six on the second night of back to backs, all of which in enemy territory, is an promising sign for the Flames.

How Calgary performs in the second game of back to backs could prove instrumental in determining their playoff position come the end of April. Here’s a more in-depth look of what happened in the first six of the season.
