Calgary Flames working hard on acquiring Tyler Toffoli from Canadiens
In a potentially mammoth development, the Flames are working tirelessly to bring Montreal Canadiens’ forward Tyler Toffoli to Calgary.
Darren Dreger is following the trade negotiations between the two clubs closely and says the Flames are willing to send a first and fifth round draft pick along with another prospect to land Toffoli.
Amongst all the recent trade rumours, Toffoli is the player best suited to join Calgary. He won the Stanley Cup with Darryl Sutter in Los Angeles and would provide the Flames with another consistent scoring threat, precisely what the club needs in their drive toward the postseason.
While the deal is far from being done, it is thought both clubs are making solid progress in the negotiations. It’s an exciting prospect for Flames fans, who believe Toffoli could provide the final piece of the puzzle.
Yes, it’s a lot to give up for a player who has only netted nine times in 37 games this season. But you can’t judge Toffoli by his somewhat anemic offensive output this campaign, such is the abject state of the Canadiens, who are the NHL’s current bottom dwellers.
The Flames’ current on-ice product wouldn’t be negatively impacted by bringing Toffoli on board, as all outgoing assets would be draft picks and and prospects. It’s the kind of move that shows clearly the Flames intentions. They want to win now and know this club, with the right personnel addition, has every chance of making a deep playoff fun.
Let’s see how this story develops, as Toffoli would provide Calgary what they require to be considered a Western Conference favourite going into the business end of the season.
