Several Calgary Flames Rescind Trade Requests
Over the course of the 2022/23 NHL season, there was absolutely no secrets made within the Calgary Flames around the fact that Darryl Sutter’s coaching style began wearing on the players, and with two of their biggest acquisitions under performing, all eyes pointed towards the 2022 Jack Adams Award winner.
With all of the issues in the locker room, it came as no surprise that some players revealed in their exit interviews that they wanted out via trade this off-season, and many fans were left wondering what the status of those trade requests was following the shock firing of Sutter.
It has now been reported by multiple outlets that each and every single trade request has been rescinded in the days following the firing of Sutter, and while it’s not been revealed yet just who was behind these requests, it figures that some players who struggled in the Sutter system could be involved.
Now, the Flames organization have a chance to really shift the culture, as veterans like Tyler Toffoli, Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm and Mikael Backlund are all at a cross roads with their contracts, and if the new Head Coach can come in and promote a positive work environment, it could change the team drastically.
For now however, it looks like things have settled down following a chaotic week that featured franchise altering news for the good and bad, and at the very least, it appears that the team could come together behind a new captain and a re-invigorated locker room going forward.
