The Calgary Flames were one of the NHL’s most disappointing teams this past season, and after years of struggling to make a deep run in the playoffs, this off-season began with the big moves of firing both General Manager Brad Treliving as well as Head Coach Darryl Sutter.
Now, the attention shifts to replacing the General Manager, after which time the Head Coach search will begin, and now, according to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, the finalists for the GM search have been revealed.
Hearing #Flames are in final stages of their GM search. Announcement next week? Believe 4 external candidates visited YYC in last week for in-person interviews, including Dave Nonis, Stan Bowman and Marc Bergevin.

If we were handicapping, odds-on favorite would be Craig Conroy.
While a hire from within in the form of Craig Conroy is still considered the best and most logical move, four external candidates have been listed as one’s that took visits to Calgary last week. That list includes former Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis, former Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman and former Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin.
With the draft and free agency right around the corner, it makes sense if Calgary want to get a deal done soon, and with the final stages of the search upon us, a deal could come at any time now, with the future of the Flames potentially hanging in the balance.
So now we ask you, what do you think of the Flames GM search? Do any of these names interest you? Is there something you think should have got more of a look? Where do you see the future of the Flames with these names?
