This off-season may go down as one of the busiest in Calgary Flames history, as they’ve now officially added their new General Manager and Head Coach, but with so much more to come, this team could look completely different come October. With potential trades to be made, 2022 Wranglers being promoted and the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft, we could see some new faces on this team, and with this, we could see some key pieces on the way out the door, especially with seven names expected to hit free agency in the 2024 off-season.

Among that group are veteran stars Tyler Toffoli, Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin, and now, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has reported that none of these players are going into the 2023-24 season without an extension already signed, meaning that the decisions are going to be made very soon.

While there was no update given on Mikael Backlund, Nikita Zadorov, Chris Tanev or Oliver Kylington, it appears they may go into the season without a deal already struck, but this update shows that the Flames may be learning from past mistakes, and could be looking to get a haul of future assets or younger pieces back in return.

On the other hand, Calgary may be looking into an extension for one of them, as it’s highly unlikely that more than one of Toffoli, Lindholm or Hanifin will sign an extension, but either way, it appears that Flames fans will be getting clarity on a major part of their future soon.
