Calgary Flames Re-Sign Veteran AHL Forward
The Calgary Flames off-season has been busy thus far, and with all the talk about new hirings and the future of the team, some fans may have missed a very fun playoff run by the Calgary Wranglers that unfortunately fell short of a Calder Cup bid. Now, with several players from that run expected to make the full time jump to the NHL (Jakob Pelletier, Dustin Wolf, Walker Deuhr, potentially Connor Zary), the team have begun locking in other pieces, as they’ve already brought back goaltender Oscar Dansk on a one-year, two-way deal.
They’ve now followed that up by re-signing AHL veteran Clark Bishop, who was a solid contributor on this team last year, adding 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points while playing in 64 games on a team that saw plenty of changes throughout the season.
The 27-year old has appeared in 47 NHL games since he was drafted in the 5th round of the 2014 NHL Draft, and while he may not have become the player that some expected, he’s a fantastic contributor down the lineup for the Wranglers, and could play a solid depth role with the Flames if injury struck and he was ever needed.
Ultimately, this is a good move for Calgary, who will be expecting to rely on several of the 2022-23 Wranglers to make an impact at the NHL level, and while they’ve got more young names to take their position, it will be up to the veterans like Bishop, Brett Sutter and Mitch McClain to lead the way.
