The Calgary Flames off-season has been full of whispers and rumours from fans and insiders, but one rumour that was always going to come true was the return of a franchise legend following the appointment of Craig Conroy as General Manager, and today, it became official. After playing together for over a decade, Conroy has officially hired Flames legend Jarome Iginla to the role of Special Advisor to the General Manager.

After 16 seasons in Calgary where he racked up 525 goals and 570 points to become the Flames all-time leading point scorer at 1095 points, and now, after years away from the organization, he will reunite with Conroy as the Flames look to turn this organization into a winner. While they’ve still got plenty of work to do going forward on the ice, but now, the front office appears to be coming together nicely, and with everyone seemingly on the same page with plenty of great hockey minds, this is a great sign for Calgary.

It appears that Iginla will first be competing his role as a coach of the Kelowna Rockets with his son Tij Iginla, while being in his new role at the same time, but once that is over, he will be committed to the city and the team he called home for 16 years, and there’s no doubting that Flames fans are incredibly excited about the return.

Now, the Flames attention will turn to the on ice product after an incredibly eventful off-season, but it’s safe to say that the franchise is in a much better spot now than they were as early as two-three months ago.
