Calgary Flames Rumors: Star D-Man Unlikely To Sign Extension
The Calgary Flames are gearing up for a long off-season with plenty of moves to make, and while Elias Lindholm has made it clear he would love to remain in Calgary, one of their other 2024 UFA’s may not feel the same way, as officially revealed by NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun. With one year left on his deal, it now appears that defenceman Noah Hanifin has made it clear to the organization that he will not extend long-term, giving them an opportunity to make a move similar to Matthew Tkachuk a season ago, getting great value in return.
With Lindholm, Tyler Toffoli, Mikael Backlund and others all up for an extension, the Flames have so many decisions to make, but if Hanifin, perhaps the most valuable of the group wants to go, it allows Craig Conroy and the rest of this front office the chance to begin working the phones with the NHL Draft approaching.
At just 26-years of age, Hanifin has played in 598 games with Calgary and Carolina, racking up an impressive 239 points over that time, and if the Flames play their cards right, there’s no reason why they can’t come away with an impressive haul that could include multiple picks and a top prospect. Beyond that, Calgary have the opportunity to pair him with a prospect or a player of their own in return for a great starting caliber player in the NHL, so with so much speculation around, it appears that one of the Flames best players is on the way out in the coming weeks.
So what do you think? What’s the best package Calgary can get in return for Hanifin? Could they be looking to convince him to stay? Which teams should target No. 55? As always, let us know down below.
