Calgary Flames Rumours: Top Winger made available for trade
The Calgary Flames fanbase was rocked this morning by the revelation that Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm and Mikael Backlund, three of the teams core contributors over the past few seasons are all leaning towards not re-signing in Calgary, making it all the more likely that new General Manager Craig Conroy looks to move them all this off-season.
Now, according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the team have made Tyler Toffoli available in trade talks, and with that, it appears the Flames are ready to live out Conroy’s comments earlier in the off-season about getting quicker and younger.
After a career year in 2022-23, the prevailing thought around the Flames was to get as many assets possible out of the 31-year old who is owed a relatively cheap $4.25 million in the final year of a four-year, $17 million contract that he signed with Montreal before the 2020-21 campaign began. This past season, Toffoli played every game for Calgary with a rotating cast from Adam Ruzicka, Elias Lindholm, Jonathan Huberdeau and Dillon Dube around him, and over that time, he managed 34 goals and 39 assists for a career high 73 points, and for contenders looking for another scoring wing, look no further.
Sure, Calgary are likely to get the biggest return out of Lindholm and Hanifin, but Toffoli has the experience, especially in the playoffs, adaptability and most importantly, the goal scoring talent to play with anyone on any line, and no matter what direction the Flames look to take this, he’s going to get them a great return.
