There’s seemingly an age between now and October for the Calgary Flames, as they have the NHL Draft, free agency and plenty of trade speculation to deal with, but no matter how they come through the next few weeks and months, the season will go on as planned.
With just one day to go before the crucial 2023 NHL Draft, the league have now officially released their 2023-24 schedule, with the Flames opening up their season at the Scotiabank Saddledome on October 11 against the Winnipeg Jets. Their first matchup in the Battle of Alberta will come in the latest edition of the NHL’s Heritage Classic on October 29th, and like last season, the NHL is making yet another mistake of having the two teams in arguably the hottest rivalry in the league face off just four times all season long.
Unlike last year however, Calgary won’t begin the season with a two week long home stand, as they begin a five game road trip immediately after their season opener with games against Pittsburgh, Washington, Buffalo, Columbus and Detroit. Their biggest home stand of the year will come in January with six straight games played at the Dome, and while this season is expected to be a tough one for Calgary, they will finish the season in April with a very winnable schedule, so if they are in a playoff hunt, we could see a big time run late in the year.
So what do you think about the schedule? Can the Flames make a playoff push this year? Will they be looking to rebuild and potentially miss the playoffs? Which games are you most excited for? As always, let us know in the comments below.
