The Calgary Flames have made a shocking lack of big moves in the past few days, as many fans expected the trades to come fast when free agency and the off-season officially began, but as of right now, it appears that one main factor is forcing them to be patient: contract negotiations with their top-line center, Elias Lindholm.

In the past few weeks, we’ve heard plenty of numbers being thrown around, even a potential deal worth over $9 million per season for the 28-year old, but still, after all this time, a decision has yet to be made, which has plenty of Flames fans feeling impatient. Now, according to Chris Johnston on the Chris Johnston Show, the door isn’t completely closed on a potential deal, and while the two sides aren’t in constant communication, no decision has been made on either side, allowing the opportunity for a trade or an extension to come at any time.

Over the past two years, Lindholm has played in 162 of a possible 164 games, scoring 64 goals while adding 82 assists for 146 points, and while he’s no doubt reliable, many believe it would be foolish for the Flames to extend someone else going into their 30’s on a long-term deal, and at this point, it’s very hard to argue. However, new GM Craig Conroy appears to be insistent on keeping the Flames best players together, no matter the cost, and now the organization has all but been put on hold for Lindholm, with the hope that a resolution comes within the next few days or weeks.

So what do you think Flames fans? Should Calgary extend No. 28 no matter the cost? Should they look to trade him and get younger instead? What do you think the ceiling of this team is with or without him? As always, let us know all your thoughts in the comments below.
