Calgary Flames Legend With High Praise For Young Prospect
The Calgary Flames development camp took place over the past few days, and with so many interesting names to keep an eye on, it was reportedly a great event that shone a light on some great prospects in the Flames organization. The two biggest names to watch were the Flames last two first-round draft picks in Samuel Honzek and Matt Coronato, and it appears that they both impressed, with the latter drawing the attention of a franchise legend.
According to a report, Special Advisor to the General Manager and Flames legend Jarome Iginla was impressed with Coronato, ending the camp with a message for the Flames top offensive prospect: “The one thing I notice is you never cheated a drill, you did everything at high pace, your work ethic was noticeable every day”.
Coronato landed in Calgary last season with plenty of hype after two fantastic seasons at Harvard, making his NHL debut in the final game of the regular season, and after clear and obvious improvements when he arrived at development camp, it appears that he’s ready to take the next step for the NHL squad in 2023-24. Right now what isn’t clear however is where he will slot into the lineup, whether it be a top role alongside the teams biggest stars or down the lineup alongside the likes of Jakob Pelletier or Walker Duehr, but if given the chance, he’s a name to keep an eye on going forward for the Flames.
So what do you think Calgary fans? Is Coronato ready to live up to the hype? How much of an impact do you think a franchise icon like Iggy made on the kids at development camp? Which prospects are you most excited about going forward? As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
