On the heels of a Noah Adler poll (see below) on Twitter/X that yielded 60.7% of 440 respondents in favour of a new Calgary Flames goal song, James Johnson over at The Win Column published this article with some thoughtful suggestions for alternative options to the Flames’ current celly song, “T.N.T.” by AC/DC. James’ list consisted of “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light ‘Em Up)” by Fall Out Boy, “Fireball” by Pitbull (feat. John Ryan), and “Fire Burning” by Sean Kingston.

Because, among few other things, I love both the Calgary Flames and music, I wanted to get in on the conversation with Noah and James. I’ve listed a whole bunch of alternative options for the new Flames goal song below.

“Sleep Now In the Fire” by Rage Against the Machine

Hit the play button below and note how electric this RATM track would be in the Saddledome (or the new rink) when the Flames score, specifically starting at about the 13-second mark in the preview clip here.

“Sweetness” by Jimmy Eat World

A singalong anthem pumped full of nostalgia for any fan who played EA’s NHL video games growing up, the atmosphere created by Jimmy Eat World and thousands of fans singing a chorus of whoas would be a ton of fun.

“This Fire” by Franz Ferdinand

It’s a bop. Fans would be grooving. And the lyrics are on brand: “A fire that burns / This fire is out of control / I’m gonna burn this city, burn this city.”

“Fuel” by Metallica

Give me fuel. Give me fire. Give me that which I desire. Metallica’s “Fuel” would be something else.

“Burn It To the Ground” by Nickelback

Even though this song may be overplayed in hockey arenas, especially in Canada, even the most closeted Nickelback fan can admit it’s a banger and would be a worthy goal song.

“Misery Business” by Paramore

Most know it. Most love it. Most can sign it. And scoring does “just feel so good”…

“Hot Right Now” by DJ Fresh (feat. Rita Ora)

Taking a step out of the rock/pop-punk/metal realm, a electronic option could be DJ Fresh and Rita Ora’s “Hot Right Now” – Flames are hot?

“Slither” by Velvet Revolver

The riff into the “Hey, hey, hey” bridge beginning at the 24-second mark (try the 38-second mark in the preview clip below) is what I’m thinking could sound real nice.

“House Fire” by Tyler Childers

Perhaps Calgary needs something country-esque. A little more chill than some options, Tyler Childers’ “House Fire” could still get the people going if it was loud enough.

“Ride” by The Vines

Hit the 30-second mark in the preview below and you’ll see what I mean.

“Gasoline” by Audioslave

Hit the 30-second mark in the preview and you’ll get it. A Tom Morello riff accompanied by Chris Cornell vocals with just a handful of simple lyrics. Pouring some “Gasoline” on the Flames might do the trick…

“Bombtrack” by Rage Against the Machine

“Burn, burn, yes, you’re gonna burn”

This might be favourite option on the list.

What track would you pick for the Calgary Flames new goal song if you were handed the keys to the Saddledome’s DJ booth?
