Which Calgary Flame is the fanbase’s favourite?

Flame For Thought is currently running a fan survey to collect data from the C of Red on a number of topics, which will be used to inform content here on the site. To those who have taken the survey, thank you! And to those who have not, it’s not too late – fill it out here. Among the survey’s questions is one inquiring about the respondent’s favourite player currently on the Calgary Flames roster.

The most interesting takeaway from this particular question is that there’s no runaway “fan favourite” – something that probably speaks to the lack of star power of the current Calgary Flames. In fact, 6.6 percent of respondents have specified they don’t even have a favourite and one fan even named Harvey the Hound as their favourite Flame. Additionally, the team’s two highest paid players – Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri – have combined for a total of zero votes (so far).

However, a handful of Flames did get some love in the survey responses. Let’s take a look at who fans have identified as their favourite players on the squad.

A tie for fifth favourite Flame: Andrew Mangiapane and MacKenzie Weegar

Andrew Mangiapane and MacKenzie Weegar have each taken home 7.9% of responses as the fanbase’s fifth favourite Calgary Flames.

Fourth favourite Flame: Mikael Backlund

Donning the “C”, Mikael Backlund is the C of Red’s fourth favourite Flame.

Third favourite Flame: Matthew Coronato

It’s pretty cool to see a rookie sneak onto the podium. Matthew Coronato is the fanbase’s third favourite player on the Calgary Flames.

Perhaps Connor Zary will sneak in to the top three in due time?

Second favourite Flame: Rasmus Andersson

A defenceman takes the second spot – Rasmus Andersson is the fanbase’s second favourite member of Calgary Flames.

The C of Red’s favourite Calgary Flame: Nikita Zadorov

Outspoken and honest, Nikita Zadorov proves that a big, tough defender with a flare for offence can be a fanbase’s favourite player, as long as your fan and media relations are as hot as his have been so far this season.
