2. Oliver Suvanto
Out of all the prospects in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft, Oliver Suvanto out of Finland likely has the least production coming into the draft, as he played just 48 games of significant action at a high level this past season. However, he also appeared at the World Juniors, but at 6-foot-3 at 17-years-old, it's easy to see why the physical profile excites so many GM's around the National Hockey League.
The Flames have recently gone away from drafting purely based on size since the Sam Honzek pick back in 2023, but in Suvanto, they potentially see a player that's the best of both worlds. While he may never have the offensive upside of a player they will pick at No. 6, Suvanto is young and has very high upside as a two-way player, and if there's a deal that makes sense to move up into the teens, he could be a good pick for Calgary.
1. Tynan Lawrence
Before the 2025/26 season, Tynan Lawrence was seen as one of, if not the best centre's in the entire 2026 NHL Draft class, but unfortunately, the production and the change of leagues didn't come with that. After posting 10 goals, 17 points in just 13 USHL games, Lawrence made the switch to Boston University, and in that time, he struggled to find his rhythm, posting just 2 goals across 18 games at the college level.
At his best, Lawrence has incredible hockey sense, and with a strong motor and strong skating skills, if he can bounce back and find his role in 2026/27, he could be an absolute steal for a team in the mid first-round. There's still things for him to work on such as his explosiveness, his willingness to get dirty and his need to simplify things on the ice,
