The Calgary Flames have had back-to-back fantastic NHL Draft's, and as a result, this is team whose rebuild is humming along nicely, with the team expected to get an infusion of young talent on more than one occassion in the next 2-3 years. Most of that talent is expected on the blue line, and with Zayne Parekh, Carson Carels, Simon Nemec, Henry Mews and Kevin Bahl all expected/hoped to play major roles, the future looks very bright.

While Carels won't arrive until the end of the year, the arrival of Jake Middleton has changed things for the Flames, and while Zach Whitecloud has been fantastic for Calgary on and off the ice since the Rasmus Andersson trade, he could end up being the odd man out. Not only that, but a division rival is seemingly shaping up as the perfect trade partner for the Flames on their veteran defenseman.

Recently on X, hockey analyst Mike Bartner took a look at the Anaheim Ducks blue line, and it's safe to say that right now, it's not up to the standard of a team that made the Stanley Cup Playoffs just a few months ago.

On paper, a right side of Drew Helleson, Ian Moore and Nick Jensen isn't quite up to post-season contenders standards, and after moving out Olen Zellweger and Mason McTavish this summer, they're clearly open for business. While the team won't give up a first-round pick or a top prospect for Whitecloud, he's just what the Ducks need, as he is a former Stanley Cup Champion and a potential veteran leader for this team at 29-years-old.

Looking at this team, the fit is absolutely perfect, and alongside a player like Jackson Lacombe, Whitecloud could play a serious role in getting this team back to the post-season next year. It's unclear if the two teams have discussed a deal, as there are other available RHD out there for Anaheim, but if the Flames decide they want to move Whitecloud following the addition of Jake Middleton, the Ducks are a perfect landing spot, and the deal should be explored.
