Winners: Calgary Flames Staff

While the on-ice product is the most important thing, given the circumstances surrounding the Flames final hope opener at the Scotiabank Saddledome, there was plenty of emotion and excitement in the building.

For someone that was present, it was clear just how much care with the moment that the Calgary Flames staff took, with the highlight of the night being the incredible video package that paid homage and respect to decades of hockey and events in the iconic building.

It's tough putting together such an emotional video when most expect the team to be poor, but the staff behind the scenes at the Saddledome gave it their all to give the iconic building a great atmosphere for opening night, and until puck drop, they had the building rocking.

Losers: Calgary Flames Fans

Unfortunately, any good that was build early in the night was quickly taken away by the play on the ice, as the Flames were entirely outclassed all night, with the score being 3-0 after 20 minutes, deflating the entire arena almost immediately.

There were flashes, and every time Zayne Parekh and Simon Nemec touched the puck, excitement in the building grew, but with little offensive production beyond that, the fans were treated to a lackluster, disappointing performance.

Most fans knew what the 2026/27 season would be in Calgary, but for those hoping to see at least a competitive performance on opening night, this was worse than possibly expected, with most of those fans in for a tough six months ahead.
