The 2026 NHL Draft Lottery is less than a week away, and given what this means to the Calgary Flames franchise, it could one of the biggest nights in the history of the organization, for better or worse. Regardless of how the lottery balls fall, the Flames will pick no lower than No. 6 overall, but with a franchise altering player like Gavin McKenna at the top of the draft, the hope is that they can move up.
Currently, the team have the fourth best odds at winning the lottery, and with a 9.5% chance at winning the lottery, absolutely anything could happen on draft night. But that raises the question, since the NHL changed the lottery format back in 2021, what has happened to the teams that found themselves in the same spot as the Flames?
